Powerful Women

As a writer of Women’s Fiction it is only natural that I enjoy reading about influential women. When I’m not reading fiction, my favorite go-to books are biographies. The first biography I remember reading from childhood storied the life of Eleanor Roosevelt. She married President Franklin Roosevelt and advocated for the civil rights of African Americans and women. I remember seeing the word “headstrong” for the first time in that book when I was in the second or third grade. Then I saw it used again in a biography for Abraham Lincoln so I looked up its meaning. I learned that day a word that described me perfectly.

This week I am listening to the Becoming by Michelle Obama. As a child, she too could be described as determined and headstrong. Traits that comprise a woman who makes a difference in this world. I am only on Chapter 3, just into the part of her college years, but I look forward to reading more about the life that made her the person she is today.

A few other women that I admire are Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, Bernice King, Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks, to name a few. Who do you admire and why?
